| The
son of a renowned sword-smith, young Conrad always
dreamed he would become a Knight of the Code, a Holy
Paladin of the Kingdom of Yaul. Had he known that
the world of Wezmeir was teetering on the verge of
annihilation – that the evil gods and sorcerers
were preparing a final assault against the bastions
of good – he might have reconsidered.
Sir Donaldson, a Knight of the Code, visits the boy's
father to have new armor crafted, and encourages the
headstrong boy to apprentice as a knight.
With help from Kallum, an orphaned wizard serching
for the truth about his family, Conrad sets off for
Yaul. En route, they are joined by a hard-drinking,

named Godfrey, a
skilled but emotionally-repressed elf, and Amelia
– a tavern wench and cutpurse, who quickly falls
for Conrad (after robbing him blind). Together, the
band of friends battles and maneuvers their way to
Yaul.
Many dreams are realized and dashed. Soon after Conrad
becomes a Knight and marries Amelia, the Argate Empire
unleashes its legions against helpless kingdoms and
defenseless peasants. Although he enlists the help
of anyone who hates the Argate (be they pirates or
dragons), Conrad and Kallum soon emerge as Wezmeir's
last hope against Lord Divar and the sultry –
if psychopathic – goddess Sekia.
Combining touches of Tolkien with the legends of Robin
Hood and King Arthur, author Kristan Proudman has
crafted an original universe that can rightfully claim
a unique place in epic fiction. Memorable characters
and evocative prose are accompanied by the vivid illustrations
of V.Shane, to produce a novel that is both entertaining
and thought-provoking. |
